Welsh Philatelic Society
Cymdeithas Ffilatelig Cymru

The Society was founded on 13 February 1971
to cater for those interested in the philately and postal history of Wales.

Membership stands at around 220, and includes collectors in the USA, Japan, Italy, Canada and Holland, with the remainder being divided almost equally between Wales and England (but none living in Ireland and only one in Scotland!).

The Society's Constitution may be viewed by clicking here.

Meetings take place five times a year, alternating between North and South Wales, with the Annual General Meeting being held as part of a four-day gathering each June at the Snowdonia National Park Study Centre near Porthmadog in Gwynedd.

There are three or four postal auctions of Welsh material annually. A sample page of the list for a recent auction, showing estimates and - when available - prices realised, may be viewed by clicking here.

The Society's award-winning
Newsletter is published three times a year - issue no.108 (May 2008) contained details of recent events and articles on aspects of Welsh philately, including:

A large Library of publications relating to Welsh philately is available for the use of members, and the majority of items may be borrowed by post, with a selection from the stock being taken to most meetings. The Library List may be viewed by clicking here.

Subscriptions for the season 2008/2009 (beginning 1 September 2008) are:-

Full - £7.00 (GB pounds)
Senior citizen - £5.00
Student (full-time) - £5.00
Family member - £3.00
Overseas supplement - £4.00

A Family member is a close relation living at the same address as a full member - only one copy of each Society publication is sent to that address.

The Overseas supplement is to cover the additional postal costs incurred in sending Society publications to members overseas.

New members joining after 1st March in any year are deemed to have paid their subscription for the following year also.

A Membership Application Form, as a .pdf file for printing out, may be downloaded by clicking here.

Silver Jubilee

The 25th Anniversary meeting of the Society took place at Aberystwyth on Saturday 10 February 1996.

In connection with this event the Society produced a sheet of 'stamps' (though more correctly termed 'labels') printed in red on white paper, and bearing the Society logo, shown above, and the words "25th Anniversary".

Each sheet comprises ten labels (five rows of two), rouletted between, the first five labels having the design in red on a white background, and the remainder the same design but with colours reversed.

The pair of stamps in the centre row thus comprises the two designs se-tenant.

Below are shown the Society logo depicted on the labels, (NB - the green background is NOT present on the labels), and the cachet used (in black only) on a small number of special covers produced to commemorate the meeting.

The labels and cover may be viewed together by clicking here

Specimens of the labels are available for purchase at 1.25 GB Pound (including postage to UK addresses) per sheet of 10 labels, and a few of the covers are available at the same price - ordering details for both labels and covers may be obtained by sending an appropriate e-mail to Peter Brindley
